Material Selection Overview

A material route is a project decision, not a catalogue pick.

Sheet-based, moulded and rigid constructions each change how artwork behaves, how an outline is cut and how the finished piece is packed. We review those consequences with you before a material direction is fixed.

What decides the route

  1. Product structureFlat printed piece, domed finish, rigid body or multi-piece set all require different construction planning.
  2. Intended useHow the item is handled, mounted and displayed during its normal life in the buyer's market.
  3. Target market and channelRetail, institutional or promotional placement, and the presentation the buyer must deliver.
  4. Order requirementsDesign count, quantity split, packaging direction and the delivery plan confirmed with your quotation.

Product Construction Categories

Six construction routes we work with.

Each route is described in general terms. Final construction, tooling and finish are confirmed against the approved artwork and specification rather than from this list alone.

Flexible & Printed

Printed flexible magnetic sheet for flat shapes, cut-out figures and artwork-led designs, with the print route selected for the submitted artwork.

Epoxy-Domed

A domed clear finish applied over printed artwork to create a raised, glossy surface. Tooling and production route are confirmed per design.

Acrylic

Rigid acrylic bodies combined with a magnetic backing for designs that need a solid, defined shape and a clean edge.

Soft PVC & Resin

Moulded soft PVC and cast resin constructions for shaped, three-dimensional designs and character-led artwork.

Tinplate & Glass Dome

Laminated tinplate and glass-dome constructions for a crisp, reflective surface where the artwork suits a sharper finish.

Multi-Piece Retail Sets

Several magnetic pieces planned as one retail item, with the set, insert and presentation reviewed together.

Surface & Finish Options

Surface direction follows the artwork and the retail context.

Finish is discussed as a direction — gloss or matt reading, raised or flat surface, reflective or soft — and then matched to the construction that can deliver it.

Flat Printed Surface

Artwork printed and finished flat, with lamination direction agreed for the handling the product will receive.

Domed Gloss Surface

A raised clear dome that lifts the artwork and reads glossy under retail lighting.

Rigid Face Panel

A solid face panel where the design needs a defined shape and a clean silhouette rather than a flexible edge.

Moulded Three-Dimensional Surface

Shaped, sculpted surfaces for character-led or gift-oriented designs.

Reflective Metal and Glass Faces

Sharp, reflective surfaces where the artwork benefits from a crisper finish than a printed sheet.

Mixed-Finish Sets

More than one finish inside a single retail set, coordinated so the range reads as one collection.

Surface direction is confirmed as part of the approved specification. We do not publish fixed performance, durability or weather-resistance figures, because the correct answer depends on the final construction and how the product is used.

How We Recommend a Material

Reviewed with your artwork, not before it.

A material recommendation is only useful once we can see what the product has to do. These are the steps we follow with buyers.

  1. Brief and artwork intakeWe start from your artwork, reference image or product brief together with the intended market.
  2. Construction screeningCandidate routes are narrowed by shape, how flat or dimensional the design is, and how the piece will be presented.
  3. Print and finish reviewThe submitted artwork is reviewed against the candidate surface so the reading of colour and detail is understood before tooling.
  4. Packaging fitPackaging direction is reviewed alongside the material, because bagging, backing cards and inserts depend on construction.
  5. Sample confirmationA physical sample is produced and approved before bulk production is scheduled. See Artwork & Sampling for that stage.

Tooling, printing layout and quantity allocation are reviewed according to the project. Standard MOQ starts from 200 pcs/sets in total per product construction and manufacturing process. Multiple designs may be combined, subject to project review.
